The Virginia IAM Council recently held a meeting where labor issues and political involvement were central topics. Charles Mann, president of the council, spoke about the importance of ensuring security, fair compensation, and safety for union members. He urged members to participate in the upcoming Virginia elections, noting that all major statewide offices and delegate seats will be contested.
Newly unionized members of the IAM Union discussed their experiences organizing at their workplace, a botanical garden. They credited support from both international and state union partners, including the AFL-CIO, for providing important resources during their organizing efforts.
Speakers at the meeting emphasized that political engagement and voting are necessary to advance the labor movement and protect workers’ rights. The message was clear that these efforts should continue regardless of party affiliation.
