USAA has announced that it has provided over $300 million in financial relief to more than 90,000 of its members affected by the ongoing government shutdown. The support includes loans, flexible payment and fee arrangements, and personalized financial guidance for military personnel and federal employees who are experiencing disruptions in their pay.

The association serves over 14 million members and has activated a broad support program to help those impacted. USAA stated that this program will be extended through the next pay period and may be adjusted as the situation develops.

“We know the weight that uncertainty can bring, especially for those who serve,” said Michael Moran, President of USAA Federal Savings Bank. “That’s why we’re here—not just as a bank, but as a trusted and valued partner, ready to listen, guide and support you every step of the way.”

According to USAA, approximately 82,000 loans have been issued totaling over $294 million to assist members facing paycheck disruptions. Additionally, more than 11,100 consumer loan payment extensions have helped free up $15 million for immediate needs. Over 7,600 credit card payment extensions amounting to $2.8 million have also been granted. Nearly 33,000 deposit accounts have had overdraft fees waived or refunded.

In addition to financial assistance, USAA is providing advice on managing resources during the shutdown. Members are encouraged to prioritize essential expenses such as groceries and mortgage payments; use savings accounts before tapping into certificates of deposit or retirement funds; contact financial institutions early if they anticipate payment difficulties; and use emergency savings with the expectation of back pay when the government reopens.

USAA continues its support for military aid societies that offer emergency assistance and education support. Since 2016, USAA has contributed more than $40 million to these organizations.
