Union members in Washington, D.C. have established a food pantry to assist those affected by the ongoing government shutdown, which has now lasted over 30 days. With federal SNAP funding nearing its end, the initiative provides canned goods to the public and collects donations for local food banks. These efforts are aimed at supporting laid-off federal workers, including some who are members of IAM Union and NFFE-IAM.

Food insecurity among federal employees has increased during prolonged government shutdowns, especially as critical assistance programs like SNAP face disruptions.
