Texas Governor Greg Abbott has sent more emergency management personnel to Arizona to help with flood recovery efforts. This action follows a request from Arizona’s Department of Emergency and Military Affairs.
“Texans are no strangers to the devastating effects caused by severe weather,” said Governor Abbott. “Today, I directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to deploy additional personnel to further support Arizona as they rebuild and recover from recent flooding. Texas will continue to assist our fellow Americans in their time of need.”
Under the governor’s direction, the Texas Division of Emergency Management has sent staff specializing in logistics, planning, and disaster finance. These teams will work with Arizona’s Emergency Operations Center and participate in field operations related to flood response and recovery.
This latest deployment adds to the group of Texas emergency management workers who were already sent last week for similar support in Arizona.
The assistance is being provided through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), which allows states to help each other during disasters by sharing resources and personnel. EMAC also ensures that deployed staff are protected and that mission-related costs can be reimbursed. More information about EMAC can be found at https://www.emacweb.org/.
The deployment comes while Texas continues its own recovery operations after flooding occurred across the state in July.
