Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the Texas Music Office (TMO), in partnership with the City of San Augustine and San Augustine Main Street, will hold a Music Friendly Texas Community workshop on Monday, September 29. The event will take place both virtually and in person at the San Augustine County Chamber of Commerce.

“Music is key to the Texas brand,” said Governor Abbott. “I thank the Texas Music Office for helping communities across our great state develop creative partnerships and create new jobs. The Texas music industry accounts for 196,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates over $31.7 billion in annual economic activity statewide. Working alongside local leaders like those in San Augustine, we will ensure Texas communities have the tools needed to succeed.”

Gini Mascorro, TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist, will participate in the workshop to explain how communities can become certified as a Music Friendly Texas Community and discuss related benefits.

The Music Friendly Texas Certified Community program was launched by TMO in 2016 as the first initiative of its kind in the United States. It aims to help cities support local music industries by providing resources and establishing a network focused on industry development. Certification signals to professionals that these communities are committed to growing their music sectors.

The upcoming workshop marks San Augustine’s initial step toward certification. If successful, San Augustine would join more than 85 other cities across Texas that have already received this designation.

Musicians, venue operators, and members of the public are invited to attend either online or at the chamber location at 611 W. Columbia Street, San Augustine.
