Governor Greg Abbott has announced the creation of the Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office (TREO), which will operate within the Office of the Governor. Along with this launch, a new TREO website and Regulation Evaluation Portal have been introduced.
“The State of Texas operates at the speed of business, and this new Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office will ensure we continue to foster economic opportunity and protect individual liberty,” said Governor Abbott. “By cutting red tape and rooting out unnecessary regulations, we will make state government more responsive and more efficient to serve the people and job creators of Texas.”
The newly launched website is intended to provide updates on TREO’s efforts to lessen regulatory burdens, remove unnecessary rules, and support economic growth in Texas by making it easier for businesses to operate. The site features a Regulation Evaluation Portal where residents can offer feedback or suggest areas where they believe government regulations may be excessive.
Jerome Greener was appointed earlier this month as Director of TREO.
Senate Bill 14, signed into law by Governor Abbott in April, established TREO. This legislation tasks TREO with helping state agencies review their rules, repeal those considered ineffective or unnecessary, evaluate public regulatory costs, and develop guidelines for adopting new rules. These guidelines include requirements for analyses related to cost and employment impact.
