Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the Texas Film Commission will host a Film Friendly Texas Workshop in Odessa on Thursday, October 16. The event is open to communities across the state interested in strategies for local job creation and economic growth through participation in the Film Friendly Texas Certified Community program.

“Texas’ growing media production industry supports local jobs and creates revenue in communities across our great state,” said Governor Abbott. “The Texas Film Commission works with our community partners to market their unique skills, attract new investments in media production, and create high-paying jobs for Texans. I invite all Texas communities to attend this workshop to leverage the advantages of being certified as a Film Friendly Texas Community.”

The workshop is organized by the Texas Film Commission together with Discover Odessa. It will provide professional development opportunities and information sessions, including guidance on how to become a certified Film Friendly Texas Community. Attending one of these workshops is required for certification.

City or county government employees, as well as representatives from convention and visitors bureaus, chambers of commerce, or local economic development corporations who serve as designated liaisons for film inquiries are encouraged to participate.

The event will take place at the Holiday Inn Odessa from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with registration beginning at 8:00 AM. Additional details and registration information can be found at https://gov.texas.gov/film/page/fftx_workshops.

Since its launch in 2007, the Film Friendly Texas Certified Community program has grown to include more than 200 participating communities focused on developing media production industries statewide. More information about the program is available at https://gov.texas.gov/film/page/fftx_overview.

For over five decades, the Texas Film Commission has worked within the Governor’s Economic Development & Tourism Office to promote job growth by positioning Texas as a destination for various forms of media production.
