Governor Greg Abbott announced that the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has received federal approval to extend the deadline for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) applications related to severe flooding over the Fourth of July weekend. The new deadline for eligible individuals to apply is September 29, 2025, which provides an additional 25 days.
“Texans who qualify for Disaster Unemployment Assistance will now have until September 29 to apply,” said Governor Abbott. “By extending the Disaster Unemployment Assistance deadline, more hardworking Texans will have the resources and support they need to rebuild. Texas remains resolute in support of these communities as they work to heal and recover.”
The extension applies to workers and self-employed individuals in Burnet, Kerr, Guadalupe, Kimble, McCulloch, Menard, San Saba, Tom Green, Travis, and Williamson counties who are unable to work due to damage from storms and flooding. These individuals can submit applications online through Unemployment Benefit Services or by calling TWC at (800) 939-6631.
To be eligible for DUA benefits under this declaration, applicants must meet certain criteria. This includes having exhausted regular unemployment benefits or not qualifying for them; having worked or been scheduled to work in the disaster area; being unable to work because of physical damage caused by the disaster; showing that their primary income was affected; being unable to work due to injury from the disaster; becoming a household’s main supporter because of a death; or being unable to reach their workplace due to travel barriers caused by the disaster.
The Texas Division of Emergency Management continues to urge residents and business owners affected by severe weather in designated counties to report damages using the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT). These reports help officials determine eligibility for federal assistance programs such as DUA.
