Tenderfoot TV and iHeartPodcasts have launched a new six-part limited podcast series titled “Wisecrack,” which blends stand-up comedy with true crime storytelling. The show, which premiered on September 2, 2025, features comedian Edd Hedges recounting a personal experience that turned from a charity performance in his English hometown into a night marked by tragedy.

On July 22, 2015, Hedges returned to his village for a homecoming comedy show. Hours after his set, a murder occurred in the community. According to the series, the perpetrator later targeted Hedges himself. The podcast uses Hedges’ comedic routine as both narrative device and character study, moving between moments of humor and details of the criminal investigation.

The project is co-produced by Tenderfoot TV and iHeartPodcasts in association with Starwipe Productions. It originated at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival when Jodi Tovay, an Emmy-nominated crime producer, saw Hedges perform. “I was taking a break from making crime television when Edd’s story found me,” said Jodi Tovay, Host & Producer of Wisecrack. “The moment I heard his set, it stopped me in my tracks. My curiosity took over and I left vacation early and got to work, knowing that everyone needed to hear this immediately.”

As listeners follow the story, Tovay’s investigation moves from Atlanta to the UK and includes interviews with those connected to the case. Hedges’ set forms the backbone of each episode. He commented: “If you want to hear about my father with 8 fingers, how my mother became an accidental meth dealer, and uncover why my neighbor became a murderer, then Wisecrack is for you,” said Edd Hedges. “I tried to deal with the trauma of that night through comedy, but I wasn’t willing to fully drop my guard. This podcast faces it all, head-on.”

He also reflected on using comedy as coping mechanism: “Stand-up was my escape. Having been the butt of the jokes growing up, I was able to use the same material to now have audiences laughing with me, not at me,” said Edd Hedges. “So if you want to hear about my father with 8 fingers, how my mother became an accidental meth dealer, and uncover why my neighbor became a murderer, this podcast is for you.”

Donald Albright, Co-founder and CEO of Tenderfoot TV added: “When you think you have heard every type of true crime story, Wisecrack proves you haven’t,” said Donald Albright. “Comedy and crime are a proven recipe for success, but Wisecrack uses the art of stand-up comedy as a device to tell a narrative story, where every punchline hides something darker. I don’t think podcast listeners have ever experienced anything quite like it.”

New episodes will be released each Wednesday on iHeartRadio and other platforms where podcasts are available. Subscribers to Tenderfoot+ can access all episodes ad-free upon release.

iHeartPodcasts distributes “Wisecrack.” According to Podtrac rankings cited by iHeartMedia here, iHeartPodcasts holds the position as number one podcast publisher.
