Season five of the historical podcast “I Didn’t Know, Maybe You Didn’t Either” has been launched by iHeartMedia and Charlamagne tha God’s Black Effect Podcast Network. The show is hosted by comedian and radio host Brian “B-Daht” McLaughlin and aims to highlight events in Black history that continue to influence society.
The new season coincides with the 100th anniversary of Carter G. Woodson’s creation of Negro History Week. This milestone will be recognized by focusing on stories that demonstrate how Black individuals not only endured history but also shaped it. Host B-Daht will present lesser-known figures such as Shirley Ann Jackson, whose scientific work is foundational for modern communication systems, and FAMU’s Marching 100, a band credited with influencing standards of excellence replicated worldwide. The season will also cover international topics like the Haitian Revolution and Yasuke, an African warrior who became a samurai in Japan.
The podcast is organized into weekly themes during February: foundational episodes about Black achievements; stories about inventions and culture created by Black individuals; global perspectives on Black excellence; and efforts to correct misinformation about Black history.
Episodes are available daily throughout Black History Month via iHeartPodcasts on the iHeartRadio app and other podcast platforms.
Charlamagne Tha God, founder of the network, stated: “The Black Effect Podcast Network gives rise to emerging and established content creators and storytellers whose perspectives and creative visions have been marginalized and overlooked while serving an audience that has been underserved.”
Brian McLaughlin (B-Daht) brings his experience from stand-up comedy, radio hosting—including stints at 102 JAMZ in North Carolina—and television appearances such as MTV’s Wild ‘N Out to the series.
