Dr. Erika Gonzalez has been appointed to the CPS Energy Board of Trustees following a confirmation vote by the San Antonio City Council. Her five-year term will begin on February 1, 2026. The City Council’s decision came after the CPS Energy Board of Trustees approved her nomination, representing the Northeast Quadrant (2).
Dr. Gonzalez currently serves as CEO and Medical Director for South Texas Allergy & Asthma Medical Professionals. She earned her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and holds a Bachelor of Science from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio.
“I’m thankful to the City Council for their vote and honored to join the CPS Energy Board of Trustees. I believe in the mission and vision of CPS Energy, and I look forward to making an impact in our city-owned utility,” said Dr. Erika Gonzalez.
Dr. Francine Romero, chair of the CPS Energy Board of Trustees, commented on Dr. Gonzalez’s appointment: “Dr. Gonzalez is an active and well-respected member of our medical, business, and public sectors, in addition to her former military service. We look forward to welcoming her to the Board of Trustees, where we will work together to sustain CPS Energy’s goal of serving our region with reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy.”
Rudy D. Garza, President and CEO of CPS Energy, added: “Dr. Gonzalez’s vast experience as a physician, business owner, and veteran will be critical to guiding CPS Energy into the future. We welcome Dr. Gonzalez to the team, and we look forward to working together to serve our growing community.”
Dr. Gonzalez will succeed Trustee John Steen when his second term ends on January 31, 2026. She joins current board members Dr. Francine Romero (Chair), Dr. Willis Mackey (Vice Chair), Janie Gonzalez (Trustee), and Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones.
