Samsung has announced a $1 million donation to support relief and recovery efforts in Texas following severe flooding across 21 counties. The company selected the Rebuild Texas Fund, managed by the OneStar Foundation, to help distribute $900,000 for immediate and long-term recovery needs in affected areas. Rebuild Texas Fund collaborates with local leaders and organizations to address community priorities and unmet needs.
An additional $100,000 is being targeted through Samsung’s employee giving program, which includes corporate matching donations to three community funds: Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country flood relief fund, Central Texas Community Foundation (in partnership with Travis and Williamson Counties), Travis County Cares, and Wilco Cares.
Bonyoung Koo, president of Samsung Austin Semiconductor, said, “Our hearts are with the communities and families who have been impacted by the catastrophic flooding in Texas. As a proud Texas-based company for nearly 30 years, we are deeply committed to supporting our neighbors and helping them recover from these devastating floods.”
Flooding during July caused significant damage throughout the region and resulted in loss of life. Chris Bugbee, president and CEO of OneStar Foundation, commented on Samsung’s involvement: “Samsung and Texas have a strong partnership that goes beyond business. Samsung is dedicated to Texans and they’re deeply rooted in our state. With this donation they will help provide much-needed assistance to those who need it most.”
Alongside financial contributions, Samsung employees have volunteered at flood recovery sites as part of the company’s #WeChipIn initiative.
Samsung Austin Semiconductor employs about 4,500 people in Central Texas. The facility produces advanced semiconductor technology used in various sectors such as mobile devices, automotive products, networking equipment, and consumer electronics.
