San Angelo marked the opening of Roosevelt Lofts, a new affordable housing development for residents aged 55 and older. The property, located at 50 North Chadbourne Street, offers 25 income-restricted units. It was developed with support from the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA), which awarded the project $998,280 in tax credits through the 2023 9% Housing Tax Credit program. Over a ten-year period, these credits are valued at approximately $8.4 million.

Roosevelt Lofts is housed in the former Roosevelt Hotel, a building originally constructed in 1929 as the Rainbow Hotel by architect John G. Becker. The site is situated two blocks from San Angelo City Hall and holds historical significance according to the Texas Historical Commission.

Those interested in living at Roosevelt Lofts can contact the management office at (325) 242-9800. For information on other affordable housing options across Texas, individuals can use TDHCA’s Help for Texans service and Vacancy Clearinghouse at https://www.tdhca.texas.gov/help-for-texans.
