The Pennsylvania State Council of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) recently held its 2025 conference, where several union leaders addressed current issues facing members and the broader labor movement.

President Rich Howell presented a detailed report summarizing key updates from the event. Among the main speakers was IAM Chief of Staff Vinny Addeo, who spoke about the political environment in Washington, D.C., and how it affects union members. Addeo emphasized the need for continued advocacy for union rights, stating that members should not allow themselves to be silenced.

Richie Johnsen, General Vice President of IAM Air Transport Territory, provided an update on compensation for mechanics in his sector. He noted that mechanics at American Airlines are now earning over $70 per hour, which he described as a record high.

David Sullivan, Eastern Territory General Vice President for IAM, also addressed delegates. He discussed how the organization is working to protect its membership from efforts in Washington to undermine worker rights.

Delegates at the conference gave strong support to Janelle Stelson, a pro-labor candidate running for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 10th district. The event included presentations on various topics such as union litigation, OSHA safety standards, anti-union campaign tactics, and community engagement projects.

The report concluded by highlighting the importance of encouraging union members to participate in upcoming elections by voting for pro-labor candidates and Supreme Court judges in Pennsylvania.
