Niterra has partnered with Rackspace Technology to migrate its SAP ECC environment to Google Cloud, completing the process in just two months. This timeline is less than half of what is typical for such migrations. The project also involved consolidating three on-premises data centers located in Dubai, Johannesburg, and Frankfurt.

The company had no prior experience with cloud infrastructure and required a partner who could ensure speed, security, and uninterrupted business operations. Bernd Hinkmann, Senior Manager, IT Service Delivery Management EMEA at Niterra, said: “We needed a partner with not only deep SAP and Google Cloud experience, but also the ability to understand our unique business requirements and ensure our operational continuity throughout the project.”

Rackspace Technology created a migration strategy that included establishing a secure Google Cloud landing zone with governance and security controls for all workloads. The company consolidated global data centers and migrated all virtual machines using both native Google tools and additional methods for compatibility. The transfer included 4TB of critical SAP data across development, QA, production, and reporting systems while maintaining network performance.

The migration was completed within two months without disrupting essential business processes such as logistics and warehouse management. Teams from the U.S., Mexico, Germany, and India collaborated to execute the migration and share knowledge.

Following the migration, Niterra achieved operational stability and is now positioned for future innovation on Google Cloud. Rackspace continues to provide managed services through its Modern Operations and Application Services for SAP offerings.

Hinkmann commented on the outcome: “With Rackspace as our partner, we achieved an optimal scenario. The best part is that the transition was secure and stable,” he said. “We did not have any performance issues, downtime or problems. We received very positive feedback from everybody involved with and impacted by our move to the cloud.”

D K Sinha, President Public Cloud at Rackspace Technology added: “Niterra’s rapid migration to Google Cloud reflects the future of enterprise transformation — fast, secure, and disruption-free. At Rackspace, we’re proud to deliver not just technical execution, but a strategic foundation for innovation. This project proves what’s possible when expertise and collaboration come together.”

Discussions are ongoing regarding further modernization projects between Niterra and Rackspace Technology.
