Nature’s Treasures, a well-known local business in Austin, has completed its relocation to a larger facility at 11055 N IH-35 after being required to move due to the IH-35 Capital Express project. The company, founded by Karen Richards, started as a small retail store on East 5th Street and expanded over the years to become a destination for rock collectors and those interested in natural décor.

The need for relocation arose when the State of Texas included Nature’s Treasures’ previous site in the highway expansion plans. Working with their landlord and the Texas Department of Transportation, Nature’s Treasures sold their property and began searching for a new location in 2024. The move was carried out in phases to ensure business continuity.

After two years of construction and collaboration between tenants, landlords, city officials, and state agencies, Nature’s Treasures announced its grand reopening on August 8. This event was held in partnership with the Austin Chamber of Commerce. City officials declared this date “Nature’s Treasures Day.”

The new facility is larger than before and features natural surroundings such as lawns, trees, a creek, and local wildlife. Efforts have been made to retrofit lighting with LEDs and restore native landscaping. The company also plans to participate in programs from Austin Energy and Austin Water that could benefit both the business and the environment.

Karen Richards said she believes nature can revitalize people physically and mentally. She added that it is important for people to reconnect with nature through items like jewelry or home décor made from natural materials.

The Austin Chamber of Commerce played a role in supporting this transition by collaborating on events like the grand reopening. The organization works to enhance regional economic growth by building partnerships among businesses and fostering an environment where local enterprises can succeed (https://limpar.locallabs.com/organizations/c587ea13-249c-4ff6-a49d-231cb5297a84). According to its official website, the Chamber encourages inclusive development across neighborhoods (https://www.austinchamber.com/) and supports businesses through events focused on innovation and economic trends (https://www.austinchamber.com/).
