The City of League City has been named a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community by Travel Texas, following the completion of a certification process. The designation recognizes the League City Convention and Visitors Bureau’s efforts to use tourism as a strategy for economic growth, job creation, and attracting visitors from across the United States and abroad.

Governor Greg Abbott commented on the importance of tourism in Texas: “Tourism is critical to both our local and state economies. Travelers to and within Texas generate almost $200 billion in annual economic impact and support 1.3 million jobs across the state. I congratulate the City of League City and the League City Convention and Visitors Bureau on earning this designation. All Texas communities are encouraged to apply to become a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community to further grow local tourism and jobs across our great state.”

League City now holds both Music Friendly Texas and Tourism Friendly Texas certifications.

Representative Greg Bonnen highlighted the significance of this achievement: “This recognition is a testament to the vision, hard work, and commitment of our local leaders and tourism partners. It not only highlights League City’s unique charm and vibrant offerings, but also strengthens our local economy, supports small businesses, and creates opportunities for continued growth across our region. I’m proud to represent a community that continues to invest in its future and showcase all that makes it a great place to live, work, and visit.”

Stephanie Polk, Manager of the League City Convention and Visitors Bureau, said: “We are thrilled to be recognized as a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community. This designation highlights the passion and collaboration within our community to create an exceptional visitor experience. We’ve seen tremendous growth in tourism across our region, and League City is perfectly positioned to be a natural hub for exploration and hospitality. League City’s historic downtown, growing art and music scenes, boutique shopping, and year-round calendar of events contribute to our growth as a destination.”

The certification program is available for local governments or non-profit organizations that lead tourism promotion efforts. Entities receiving this designation can strengthen partnerships important for tourism development, educate leaders about tourism’s impact on the state economy, prioritize strategies driven by local needs, and access resources from Travel Texas along with other state programs supporting communities as well as the travel industry. More information about the program can be found at gov.texas.gov/tourism-friendly-texas.

Travel Texas operates within the Governor’s Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office with a mission focused on marketing Texas as a travel destination outside of the state—both nationally and internationally—to boost revenue generation through increased visitation.
