iHeartPodcasts and Imagine Entertainment have announced the launch of a new documentary podcast, “The A Building,” which examines the 1969 student uprising at Morehouse College. The series, released on February 6, 2026, is available on the iHeartRadio app and other major podcast platforms.

“The A Building” tells the story of a group of Morehouse students who barricaded themselves inside the administration building—referred to as “The A Building”—during a period of heightened activism in the late 1960s. The protest was partly fueled by national movements for civil rights, women’s rights, labor justice, and opposition to the Vietnam War. Tensions at Morehouse increased after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., leading students to demand reforms that reflected Black history and identity. During this event, students held members of the Board of Trustees hostage for two days.

Among those involved were Martin Luther King Sr., then president of the Board of Trustees and one of those held hostage, and Samuel L. Jackson, who was one of the student organizers before his rise to prominence in Hollywood. The protest led to significant consequences for those involved, including expulsions.

Co-created and produced by Menelek Lumumba and Hans Charles, “The A Building” features reenactments, firsthand testimony, archival research, and expert analysis. The podcast explores both immediate outcomes—such as increased political pressure on Morehouse—and long-term impacts on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and nationwide student activism.

“This project has been years in the making, but it feels more relevant than ever,” said Menelek Lumumba. “I’m grateful we have the opportunity to tell this story about young people who took action, and how their one act of protest continues to reverberate through all those involved over 50 years later.”

Hans Charles added: “It’s an incredible, unbelievable story when you first hear it. That it happened on a campus like Morehouse College, in a city like Atlanta, at such a volatile time, speaks to the importance of telling and exploring what is quintessential American History.”

Nathan Kloke from Imagine Entertainment commented: “What makes the story of ‘The A Building’ so compelling is how clearly it reveals the purpose and power of protest. When Hans and Menelek first brought us this pivotal chapter of American history, it unfolded like a heist film—fast-paced, surprising, and utterly gripping. We’re excited to bring audiences along for the ride.”

Will Pearson, President of iHeartPodcasts said: “This is premium documentary storytelling that connects history to the present. ‘The A Building’ revisits a moment that feels both historic and urgently relevant, revealing how student voices helped shape lasting institutional change.”

“The A Building” adds to iHeartPodcasts’ portfolio with Imagine Entertainment—which includes titles such as “Hello Isaac,” “Unf**cking the Future,” “Big Sugar,” “The Tao of Muhammad Ali,” “Obscurum,” and “The Secret World of Roald Dahl.” These productions use deep reporting methods combined with cinematic storytelling techniques.

Executive producers for Imagine Entertainment are Nathan Kloke and Kara Welker; Katrina Norvell serves as executive producer for iHeartPodcasts.

Episodes will be released weekly every Friday.
