The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has called on the U.S. Senate to pass the Protect America’s Workforce Act, a bill designed to restore collective bargaining rights for federal workers. The union’s appeal follows an executive order issued by President Donald Trump on March 27 that ended collective bargaining for federal unions.
IAM International President Brian Bryant sent letters to both members of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate, urging support for the legislation known as H.R. 2550. The bill was introduced in the House by Representatives Jared Golden (D-ME) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), with bipartisan backing.
“The IAM Union strongly supports the Protect America’s Workforce Act for restoring collective bargaining rights to the nation’s federal workforce,” said Bryant in his communication.
Federal employees are described by IAM as essential public servants who deserve workplace protections through collective bargaining, which also benefits public service delivery.
IAM represents thousands of federal workers, including those affiliated with the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE-IAM), which covers approximately 110,000 federal employees nationwide.
