The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has announced its participation in the Young Workers March on Washington, scheduled for Saturday, February 7 in Washington, D.C. The union is encouraging members and supporters to advocate for improved conditions for young workers.

According to the IAM, young people entering the workforce are facing a range of challenges. These include rising costs of living, difficulties accessing affordable housing, issues with healthcare availability, problems securing childcare, and increasing levels of student debt. The union states that these factors are impacting not only individual workers but also the stability of communities.

The event will bring together labor unions and worker advocacy groups from across the United States. “On this day, the IAM will join labor unions and worker advocacy organizations from across the country to demand an America that works for workers and to ensure young workers have the same opportunities their parents had,” reads a statement from the organization.

Organizers say that collective action is necessary to address what they describe as overlapping crises affecting young people in today’s job market. “These challenges threaten the future of work and the stability of our communities. That’s why young workers and unions are coming together to demand action, fairness, and real solutions.”

The march is set to begin at 11 a.m. at Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill at 400 New Jersey Ave., NW. A rally will follow at noon at the U.S. Capitol Building.

“Join the IAM on Saturday, Feb. 7 and make your voice heard for good jobs, economic security, and a future where working families can thrive,” urges another statement from IAM.

Those seeking more information about participating in or supporting this event can contact Dee Colbert, Director of IAM Women’s and Young Workers program.
