A group of leaders from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), led by Midwest Territory General Vice President Sam Cicinelli and Chief of Staff Vinny Addeo, visited the Quaker Oats facility in Cedar Rapids. The delegation was welcomed by the Local 831 (District 6) Shop Committee and toured the plant to observe its production systems and learn about the contributions of IAM members.

The Cedar Rapids facility is recognized as the world’s largest cereal mill, producing Cap’n Crunch cereals among other products.

“This tour offered an invaluable perspective on the commitment and skill our members bring to their work every day,” said Cicinelli. “Seeing the scale of operations and hearing directly from rank-and-file members strengthens our resolve to continuously advocate for fair wages, safe working conditions, and a seat at the table in shaping the future of labor at Quaker Oats.”

During their visit, IAM representatives discussed several ongoing concerns with members, including workplace safety measures, training programs, and economic issues. These discussions are part of a larger effort to strengthen union representation at major workplaces like Quaker Oats.

Workers shared their views on challenges within the facility as well as potential opportunities for improvement. They emphasized union solidarity and active leadership involvement as important contract negotiations approach. The IAM also collaborates closely with other unions present at the site—SMART and BCTGM—to enhance collective strength.
