IAM Union General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes and Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen visited the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center (W3) to engage with students attending organizing and young worker classes. The visit is part of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers’ (IAM) ongoing efforts to support education, organizing, and leadership development among its members.
Cervantes participated in Organizing I classes conducted in both Spanish and English. She emphasized the significance of providing organizing education in Spanish to ensure all members have access to resources necessary for leadership roles. “Her visit amplified the IAM’s ongoing commitment to inclusion, education, and empowering members at every level of the union,” according to the statement.
Johnsen met with organizers and young workers during his visit. He commended their dedication and enthusiasm as they continued their training close to the holiday season.
Participants in the Young Workers Leadership Program stated that the presence of IAM leaders reinforced their importance within the labor movement and confirmed that they have a voice in union activities.
The classes brought together students from across North America who aimed to enhance their skills and strengthen their commitment to growing IAM membership.
