IAM Local 318’s Joseph Rumrey, a union leader for Boston-based rail workers at Keolis, recently attended a leadership training class at the IAM Winpisinger Center in Hollywood, Maryland. The program brought together about 14 union representatives from across the United States.
The course is designed to provide participants with key skills needed to support their members. It places special emphasis on claims writing and preparing for legal investigations. According to organizers, these skills are essential for protecting union membership.
In addition to individual skill development, the training aligns with broader goals of the rail division. These include efforts to secure funding for commuter rail and to promote expansion of high-speed rail infrastructure nationwide.
