Governor Greg Abbott has amended and renewed the disaster proclamation related to fire weather conditions in Texas, originally issued on August 10, 2025. The renewal comes after confirmation from the Texas Division of Emergency Management that increased fire weather conditions continue to pose a threat in several counties.
The updated proclamation extends the disaster declaration to a long list of counties across Texas, including Andrews, Bexar, El Paso, Travis, and many others. The Governor stated: “I do hereby amend and renew the aforementioned proclamation and declare a disaster in Andrews, Aransas, Archer…and Zavala Counties.”
Under Section 418.017 of the Texas Government Code, Governor Abbott authorized the use of all available state resources and those of political subdivisions as necessary to address the ongoing disaster.
Additionally, regulatory statutes or rules that could prevent or delay response efforts may be suspended with written approval from the Office of the Governor. The proclamation states: “Any regulatory statute prescribing the procedures for conduct of state business or any order or rule of a state agency that would in any way prevent, hinder, or delay necessary action in coping with this disaster shall be suspended upon written approval of the Office of the Governor.” Furthermore: “To the extent that the enforcement of any state statute or administrative rule regarding contracting or procurement would impede any state agency’s emergency response that is necessary to protect life or property threatened by this declared disaster, I hereby authorize the suspension of such statutes and rules for the duration of this declared disaster.”
Copies of this proclamation will be filed with relevant authorities as required by law.
Governor Abbott signed and dated the renewed proclamation on December 9, 2025. Secretary of State Jane Nelson attested to its issuance.
