Texas Governor Greg Abbott has renewed the disaster proclamation regarding border security for December 2025. The original proclamation was issued on May 31, 2021, under Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code, citing a surge of individuals unlawfully crossing the Texas-Mexico border as an ongoing and imminent threat for several Texas counties and state agencies.
Since its initial issuance, the proclamation has been amended multiple times to update the list of affected counties. In his latest action, Governor Abbott stated that “the certified conditions continue to exist and pose an ongoing and imminent threat of disaster as set forth in the prior proclamations.”
With this renewal, a state of disaster remains in effect for numerous counties across Texas. The governor affirmed: “All orders, directions, suspensions, and authorizations provided in the Proclamation of May 31, 2021, as amended and renewed in subsequent proclamations, are in full force and effect.”
