Individuals in the Hill Country region affected by severe storms and flooding earlier this summer are being reminded by Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) that the deadline to apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) is September 4, 2025.

“Texans who lost their jobs or had their work disrupted by the catastrophic Fourth of July floods should know that recovery resources remain available to them,” said Governor Abbott. “Disaster Unemployment Assistance provides a lifeline for families as they continue to recover and rebuild. Impacted Texans need to apply before the September 4 deadline so they can get the support they need and deserve.”

Following President Donald J. Trump’s Major Disaster Declaration, residents in Burnet, Kerr, Guadalupe, Kimble, McCulloch, Menard, San Saba, Tom Green, Travis, and Williamson counties who were unable to work due to storm damage may qualify for DUA benefits.

Eligible individuals can file for assistance online through Unemployment Benefit Services or by calling TWC at (800) 939-6631. All applications must be submitted no later than September 4.

DUA is designed specifically for people impacted by disasters and covers those who have exhausted regular unemployment benefits or do not qualify for them; those who worked or were self-employed in the disaster area; individuals whose workplace was physically damaged; those whose main source of income was disrupted; people injured as a result of the disaster; new household breadwinners due to death of a head of household; or anyone unable to reach their job because disaster conditions prevent travel.

Applicants are required to submit documentation within 21 days from filing an application. This includes proof of Social Security number and evidence of employment or planned employment at the time of the disaster. Failure to provide documentation on time will result in halted payments and possible repayment obligations. In some cases, TWC may use existing wage records if available.

Proof of employment can be submitted most quickly through TWC’s online UI Submission Portal by selecting DUA Proof of Employment at Time of Disaster from the submission menu. Applicants without internet access can send documents via fax or mail:

Attn: DUA Proof
P.O. Box 149137

Fax: (512) 322-2867

Additional information about job search resources—including connecting with local Workforce Solutions offices for job postings, training programs, résumé help, career development services—and using TWC’s online job-search engine can be found at WorkinTexas.com.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management encourages reporting property damage using its Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT), which helps determine eligibility for federal aid such as DUA.
