Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed Weldon Riggs to the Evergreen Underground Water Conservation District. Riggs will serve a term that ends on February 1, 2029. The District’s responsibilities include preserving and managing underground water resources in Wilson, Atascosa, Karnes, and Frio counties.

Riggs is from the Black Hill Community in Atascosa County and works as a cattle rancher, raising angus cattle in both Atascosa and Bexar counties. He is involved with several organizations related to agriculture and education. Riggs is a member and former director of the Independent Cattlemen’s Association of Texas, as well as a member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and the Texas State Teachers Association. He also serves on various committees, including acting as committeeman for the San Antonio Livestock Exposition School Tours Committee, construction co-chair for Christmas Village Ministries, agricultural representative for the South Central Texas Regional Water Planning Group Region L, board member of the South Texas Weather Modification Association, records sexton and former president of the Oak Island Cemetery Association, and is a member of the Blackhill Volunteer Fire Department.

Riggs holds a Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences and a Master of Education in Agriculture Education from Texas A&M University.
