Governor Greg Abbott and First Lady Cecilia Abbott distributed laptops to students in the Center Point Independent School District (CISD) who were most affected by the Fourth of July floods. The event aimed to help students continue their education while recovering from the disaster.
“Today, as children return to school, we want make sure they have every tool available to them to help them succeed,” said Governor Abbott. “We know how essential a laptop is to the education process, and that’s why we are proud to join AT&T and Compudopt to ensure you all have access to your very own laptop.”
The laptops were provided through a partnership involving AT&T, Compudopt, The Center Point Alliance for Progress, CISD, and The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country.
Governor Abbott spoke about supporting families who suffered losses during the floods. He recognized their resilience and thanked the organizations that contributed resources so students could remain connected in an increasingly digital environment. He also met with families impacted by the floods.
In response to ongoing recovery needs after severe flooding in Texas, Governor Abbott has implemented several measures. These include extending the FEMA Individual Assistance registration period and working with relief organizations such as Vaqueros del Mar Texas Flood Relief Fund and the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country on financial aid efforts exceeding $40 million. Additional steps included seeking federal disaster assistance for multiple counties, expanding SNAP replacement benefits eligibility, increasing funding for local hospitals affected by flooding, and launching mental health support services for those impacted.
Other actions taken involve updating state disaster declarations, coordinating with federal officials on major disaster declarations for affected counties, providing updates on flood response operations across Central Texas communities like Kerrville and Leander, deploying emergency resources before anticipated weather threats, and ensuring ongoing communication with residents about recovery efforts.
