Governor Greg Abbott attended the opening of Post Oak Ridge State Park in Lampasas, joining a group of sportsmen and several state officials. During the event, Abbott addressed attendees and acknowledged the role of Texas voters in supporting parks development.

“I want to thank the voters for passing the constitutional amendment that allowed not just the creation of this park, but allows us to be able to create parks like this for many years going forward,” said Governor Abbott. “It’s important that every family in our state and every child in our state is going to have access to more parks like this. This is a great day for the future of Texas and for the future of Texas generations.”

The governor was accompanied by Texas Parks and Wildlife Executive Director David Yoskowitz, Commission Chairman Paul Foster, Senator Charles Perry, Representative Armando Walle, other officials, and sportsmen.

Abbott spoke about his experiences growing up in East Texas as a Boy Scout and learning about outdoor stewardship. He also expressed appreciation for voters and lawmakers who supported creating the $1 billion Centennial Parks Fund so that more families can connect with nature.

The Centennial Parks Fund was created through voter approval of Proposition 14 in 2023. The legislature allocated $1 billion to support new state parks like Post Oak Ridge State Park, which is one of three properties acquired through this fund.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott leads the executive office for the state government, focusing on economic development, education enhancement, border security efforts, job growth initiatives, and community projects. His office has contributed to record employment levels statewide since he assumed office following his election in 2014. The main offices are based at the State Insurance Building in Austin.

Abbott’s administration forms part of the executive branch and oversees programs such as Operation Lone Star for border security and collaborations with businesses on economic expansion. In 2024, TIME recognized Greg Abbott among its list of 100 Most Influential People.

Additional photos from the park opening will be made available when released.
