Governor Greg Abbott attended the 32nd annual Cops’ Cop banquet hosted by the Dallas Police Department’s Assist the Officer Foundation. At the event, Governor Abbott delivered remarks to law enforcement officers and community leaders.

“States and communities need law enforcement and leaders who are committed to the cause of public safety,” said Governor Abbott. “You represent the very best of our great state, and Texas is better today because of what you do every day. I just want you to know you have a governor who has your back, and together, we will keep Texas safe and secure.”

CBS11 news reporter Amelia Mugavero served as emcee for the evening. Other attendees included Assist the Officer Foundation Chairman and Dallas Police Department Sergeant Ed Lujan, Dallas Police Officer James Parnell, and additional law enforcement officials.

Governor Abbott expressed appreciation for police officers’ service in protecting citizens and upholding the rule of law. He also referenced legislation he signed in the recent session aimed at strengthening bail reform. According to Governor Abbott, this legislation “ended the revolving door for violent criminals and is taking violent criminals off our streets.” Following his speech, Governor Abbott received the “Back the Blue” Award in recognition of his support for the Dallas Police Department.

The office led by Governor Greg Abbott focuses on areas such as economic development, education enhancement, border security efforts, and community initiatives that contribute to job growth and innovation in Texas. More information about his office can be found on its official website.

Additional photos from the event will be made available when released.
