Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Martin Garza and reappointed Faith Johnson and Sichan Siv to the Texas Board of Criminal Justice. Their terms will expire on February 1, 2031. The Board is responsible for overseeing the confinement, supervision, rehabilitation, and reintegration of convicted felons in Texas.

Martin Garza is retired and lives in Mission. He previously served as chief of police and city manager for the City of Mission, city manager of Weslaco, and chief of staff for Hidalgo County Precinct 3. Garza currently chairs the Mission Redevelopment Authority/Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone No. 1. He holds an associate degree in Law Enforcement from Laredo College and a bachelor’s degree in Police Administration from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

Faith Johnson is a senior judge with the 363rd Judicial District Court in Dallas. She is affiliated with several professional organizations including the State Bar of Texas, Texas Bar Foundation, Dallas Bar Association, and J.L. Turner Legal Association. Johnson also serves as board member and secretary for The Potter’s House of Dallas, Inc., committee member and secretary for the Women’s Leadership Summit, and member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Master of Education in Community Counseling from Georgia State University, as well as a Juris Doctor from Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law.

Sichan Siv resides in San Antonio and is a former United States Ambassador to the United Nations as well as an author. His previous roles include Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State. Siv serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol, trustee at both the San Antonio Museum of Art and World Affairs Council, and deacon at First Presbyterian Church San Antonio. He received his Master of International Affairs from Columbia University.

Since being elected governor in 2014 Greg Abbott has led efforts focused on job creation, economic opportunities, education enhancement, individual liberties protection, parental empowerment in schooling, and southern border security across Texas. Under his leadership the state has seen jobs growth with record employment levels.
