Governor Abbott appoints new leaders to courts and boards across Texas

Governor Greg Abbott has announced several appointments to key positions in Texas government and advisory bodies this week.

Judy Parker has been appointed as Chief Justice of the Seventh Court of Appeals, with her term set to end on December 31, 2026. H. Dustin “Dusty” Fillmore, III will serve as Judge of the 236th Judicial District Court in Tarrant County until the same date.

For the Child Protective Investigations Advisory Committee, Ryan D. Larson was appointed and named chair, while Terence Davis was also appointed. Their terms will expire on September 1, 2029. The committee is tasked with improving how investigative legal requirements and policies are applied during investigations into child abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

Julie Ruehle has been appointed to Humanities Texas, and Stacey Neal Combest along with Ellen K. Ramsey have been reappointed for terms expiring December 31, 2027. Humanities Texas operates as the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities and supports public programs in history, literature, philosophy, and related fields.

John E. Burt was named Jasper County Criminal District Attorney for a term ending December 31, 2026.

Clint Gunnels has been appointed and Marsha Moberley reappointed to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles for terms expiring February 1, 2031. The board is responsible for parole decisions for prison inmates in Texas and makes clemency recommendations to the governor.

Chris Moose joins Jamie Becker, Ph.D., and Sangeeta Singg, Ph.D., who were both reappointed to serve on the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists until October 31, 2031.

Sue Allen, Larry Moczygemba, D.V.M., and Victoria Whitehead were all reappointed to the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners for terms expiring August 26, 2031. This board enforces policies aimed at ensuring quality veterinary services across Texas.

The Office of Texas Governor Greg Abbott leads executive functions for state government from its main offices in Austin at the State Insurance Building official website.
