Governor Greg Abbott has appointed JoMeka Gray to the State Board for Educator Certification, with her term set to expire on February 1, 2031. The board is responsible for establishing certification and continuing education requirements, as well as standards of conduct for public school teachers in Texas.
JoMeka Gray, who resides in Belton, currently serves as the district and campus teacher leader at Kennedy-Powell STEM Elementary within Temple Independent School District. She brings over 12 years of experience in education, having previously taught first grade at Killeen ISD and both kindergarten and first grade at Temple ISD.
Gray has participated on the Contemporary Relevance Committee and holds memberships in several professional organizations including the Texas State Teacher Association, the Texas Classroom Teacher Association, and the National Education Association. In addition to her professional work, she volunteers with the Girl Scouts in Central Texas.
Her academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts from Louisiana Tech University. She also holds an Early Childhood National Board Certification, Generalist (EC-6) Certification, and English as a Second Language Supplemental Certification.
