Governor Greg Abbott has appointed John E. Burt as the Jasper County Criminal District Attorney, with a term ending December 31, 2026.
Burt is currently serving as the 1st Assistant Criminal District Attorney for Jasper County. His previous roles include assistant criminal district attorney in Newton County, private practice attorney, and both assistant superintendent and superintendent at Buna Independent School District (ISD). Burt is also a member of the Texas District and County Attorneys’ Association and formerly served as president of the Buna ISD School Board. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Physics and a Master of Education in Administration from Lamar University, as well as a Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law.
