Governor Abbott appoints Barry Wallace as Upshur County Criminal District Attorney

Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Barry Wallace as the new Upshur County Criminal District Attorney. The appointment will take effect on November 1, 2025, and Wallace will serve until December 31, 2026, or until a successor is elected and qualified.

Barry Wallace currently serves as the first assistant in the Upshur County Criminal District Attorney’s Office. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the State Bar of Texas, Texas District and County Attorneys Association, and the Northeast Texas Bar Association. Wallace also participates in St. Theresa’s Catholic Church Men’s Association.

Wallace served in the United States Navy and received an honorable discharge. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from East Texas A&M University, previously known as East Texas State University, and earned his Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University.
