Governor Greg Abbott has announced that more than $8.5 million in Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) grants have been awarded to 35 organizations in Central Texas. The funding, administered by the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC), is expected to support over 4,440 veterans and their families across 30 counties.
“Our veterans represent the strength and resilience of our great state,” said Governor Abbott. “By strengthening these 35 Central Texas organizations, we are creating opportunities that will carry our veterans and their families forward for generations. Texas will always stand with the brave men and women who answered the call to protect our state and our nation.”
TVC Commissioner Mary Dale highlighted the impact of local partnerships, stating, “In Central Texas, we see every day how much difference timely support means for veterans and their families. By investing in local partners and organizations, these FVA grants bring strength and stability directly to veterans and their families – turning community care into life-changing impact. These grants and these partnerships both expand our ability to provide vital services to those most deserving.”
The grant presentations took place at the Heroes Resource Center in Cedar Park. The recipients include a range of organizations providing various services such as housing assistance, clinical counseling, financial aid, peer support programs, transportation services, elder care, small business support for veterans, family services, legal assistance through Veterans Treatment Courts, home modifications, rental or mortgage help, among others.
Some notable awards include $500,000 each to Easter Seals Central Texas Inc. for housing initiatives and Samaritan Center for Counseling and Pastoral Care Inc. for clinical counseling; $400,000 to Bell County for financial assistance; $350,000 each to Austin Area Urban League for housing projects and Boys & Girls Club of Central Texas Inc. for support services; as well as multiple smaller grants distributed across counties like Burnet ($50,000 for transportation fleet) and Lee ($20,000 for elder care).
This latest round of grants follows a record-breaking announcement in May when Governor Abbott detailed $46.3 million awarded via over 200 grants to 175 organizations statewide—expected to reach nearly 40,000 veterans or their dependents.
Since its inception in 2009 through the current 2025-2026 cycle, the FVA program has allocated more than $359 million through upwards of 1,600 grants.
The TVC awards FVA grants across five categories: General Assistance; Housing for Texas Heroes; Veterans Mental Health Grants; Veterans Treatment Courts; Veteran County Service Officers.
Most funding comes from proceeds generated by special Texas Lottery games designated specifically for veteran support efforts. Additional contributions are made possible during vehicle registration or while obtaining hunting or fishing licenses.
