Twenty-eight schools across Texas have been named 2025 Lone Star Ribbon Schools, according to an announcement from Governor Greg Abbott. The designation recognizes schools for strong academic performance and progress in closing achievement gaps.
The program, previously known as the National Blue Ribbon Schools, has shifted to state leadership. This change is part of the U.S. Department of Education’s effort to give states more control over education decisions.
“Texas is on the pathway to become No. 1 in educating our children,” said Governor Abbott. “Today, we recognize the Texas schools whose hard work from teachers, staff, and parents are helping our students achieve academic excellence. Texas will continue to invest in our schools to improve performance and better prepare Texans for the workforce. I congratulate the 28 campuses who are now 2025 Lone Star Ribbon Schools. Together, we will chart a path toward a bigger, brighter Texas.”
With Texas now managing the Lone Star Ribbon program, officials say this recognition will align more closely with local priorities and values. State leaders believe that decisions about educational excellence should be made by those familiar with Texas schools.
The recognized campuses include public and private institutions from districts such as Barbers Hill ISD, Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, Houston ISD, Laredo ISD, Harmony Public Schools, and others across the state.
A full list of honored schools was provided by the governor’s office.
