Texas Governor Greg Abbott met with U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon to discuss recent developments in the state’s education system following the 89th legislative session.
Governor Abbott spoke about the progress Texas has made in education, emphasizing increased opportunities for parents, students, and educators. He referenced $8.5 billion in new funding allocated to public education and a $3.5 billion investment directed toward teacher pay raises. The Governor also pointed out that Texas has enacted what he described as “the nation’s largest day-one school choice program” aimed at giving families more options regarding their children’s education.
During their meeting, Secretary McMahon shared observations from her visit to the Alpha School’s Austin Campus, where she met graduates now attending college. She commented on how Texas schools are integrating artificial intelligence into classrooms: “The Secretary noted the innovation of Texas schools using artificial intelligence as a beneficial tool to assist students in learning how to ask the right questions to better understand educational materials.”
Additional photos of the meeting are expected to be released soon.
