Members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) in Florida recently convened in Tallahassee for a five-day legislative conference. The event brought together union members and retirees to meet with state representatives and senators, focusing on issues such as labor rights, improved wages, and the protection of pensions and Social Security.
Union leaders highlighted their concerns about proposed legislation that could undermine collective bargaining power and affect the financial stability of workers. “Leaders and activists emphasize the importance of opposing anti-union legislation that threatens the collective bargaining power and financial stability of the working class,” according to a statement from organizers.
By meeting directly with lawmakers, IAM members aim to represent machinists throughout Florida, including those working at the Kennedy Space Center, in South Florida, and in the Panhandle. The group’s main objective is to influence policy decisions that impact union workers’ quality of life while also preparing for the upcoming 2026 midterm elections.
