The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has extended the registration period for Individual Assistance for Texans affected by flooding over the Fourth of July weekend. This extension, announced by Governor Greg Abbott, allows residents in qualifying counties to submit damages and make claims until September 28.

“Texas continues to rebuild and recover in the communities impacted by catastrophic floods over the Fourth of July weekend,” said Governor Abbott. “Together, with our federal partners, we will ensure that all Texans who qualify for financial assistance have ample time to apply. I thank FEMA for extending the Individual Assistance registration period to September 28th for Texans who continue to heal from this devastating tragedy.”

Residents in Burnet, Guadalupe, Kerr, Kimble, McCulloch, Menard, San Saba, Tom Green, Travis, and Williamson counties may be eligible for FEMA’s Individual Assistance program. The program provides financial support for disaster-related expenses.

Applications can be submitted online at disasterassistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362. Disaster Recovery Centers are also available to provide information on applying and accessing services. Local officials have opened outreach centers with support from state, federal and non-profit organizations.

Governor Abbott has taken several steps to aid local recovery efforts after the flooding event. These include presenting checks with relief funds to families in affected areas and announcing significant funding initiatives for long-term flood relief through partnerships with groups like the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country. Additional actions have included securing approval of Uvalde County’s inclusion in a Presidential Disaster Declaration and celebrating infrastructure repairs such as the reopening of Cow Creek Bridge.

Further measures involve requests and approvals for more counties under disaster declarations; providing updates on ongoing response operations; launching emotional support lines; announcing grants and loan programs targeted at flood-impacted businesses and hospitals; deploying emergency resources before severe weather events; and increasing readiness levels at state operations centers.
