CPS Energy has introduced an updated version of its Casa Verde Weatherization Rebate Program, aiming to help income-qualified customers lower their energy consumption and monthly bills. The new program expands opportunities for local contractors and gives customers more flexibility in how they access weatherization services.
The Casa Verde initiative, active since 2009, has provided weatherization services to improve home comfort and energy efficiency. In the revised program, CPS Energy customers will work directly with a registered Trade Ally—contractors who meet specific requirements to participate in the program and deliver weatherization upgrades.
With the new rebate structure, customers can decide with their chosen Trade Ally how the rebate is applied. They may opt to receive the rebate directly after paying for completed work or assign it to the contractor upfront to reduce or eliminate out-of-pocket expenses for approved upgrades. This approach allows residents greater control over selecting a contractor that fits their needs and schedule.
CPS Energy will continue verifying customer eligibility and confirming their Trade Ally selection. Afterward, the Trade Ally will conduct a home assessment to identify eligible upgrades before completing approved work. CPS Energy will then issue rebates for these improvements.
Key changes in the updated Casa Verde program include allowing participants to choose their preferred contractor, a simplified online application process, and an expanded list of available rebates covering window air conditioners, HVAC system replacements, and ENERGY STAR appliances.
“Casa Verde has been a cornerstone of our commitment to help customers save energy and money,” said Jonathan Tijerina, Vice President of Corporate Development. “This new rebate model continues that work by engaging more local partners to deliver these important services and gives our customers a say in who they work with.”
The Weatherization Repair Assistance Program (WRAP) remains active alongside Casa Verde. WRAP provides funding for minor repairs that prepare homes for weatherization by addressing structural issues that could otherwise prevent upgrades from taking place.
Customers interested in participating can visit cpsenergy.com/casaverde or call (210) 353-2272 (CASA) for more information. CPS Energy will maintain oversight of the program and ensure all participating Trade Allies meet eligibility standards. A list of official Registered Trade Allies is available on the company’s website.
CPS Energy serves as the largest community-owned provider of electric and natural gas services in the United States, supplying over 900,000 electric customers and nearly 374,000 natural gas customers across San Antonio and neighboring counties. The utility’s combined customer bills are among the lowest compared with other major U.S. cities while contributing significant revenue back to San Antonio over decades.
