CPS Energy has announced its readiness to support federal employees in San Antonio affected by the government shutdown declared on September 30, 2025. The utility company offers a range of assistance programs to help customers manage their energy bills during this period.
“A top priority at CPS Energy is assisting our customers,” said DeAnna Hardwick, Chief Customer Strategy Officer. “We will continue to work closely with our customers who have been impacted to help them find alternate solutions to stay up to date on their CPS Energy bill. We encourage customers to call us to find a solution that best fits their needs.”
The company recently introduced the Assistance Finder tool, which enables customers to submit a single application and determine eligibility for various aid programs.
Among the available programs are options specifically designed for veterans with burn injuries, senior citizens, disabled individuals receiving Supplemental Security Income, and first responders who have sustained severe burns in the line of duty. Additional initiatives include payment plans that average annual bills for easier budgeting, late fee waivers for qualifying seniors over 60, and discounts through the Affordability Discount Partnership.
The Casa Verde program provides eligible households with energy efficiency upgrades averaging $5,000 at no cost. Customers who rely on electrically-operated medical equipment may receive additional time to pay their bills under the Critical Care Program.
CPS Energy encourages those seeking more information about these and other assistance programs to visit www.cpsenergy.com/assistance or call 210-353-2222. Information is available in both English and Spanish.
CPS Energy serves more than 900,000 electric and nearly 374,000 natural gas customers in San Antonio and surrounding counties. The utility’s Vision 2027 strategic plan aims to address ongoing changes in the city while maintaining affordable services.
