The CPS Energy Board of Trustees has nominated Dr. Erika G. Gonzalez to fill the upcoming vacancy for the Northeast Quadrant (2) seat. If approved by the San Antonio City Council, Gonzalez will succeed Trustee John Steen, whose second term concludes on January 31, 2026. Steen has served on the board for a decade.

Dr. Gonzalez is currently CEO and Medical Director at South Texas Allergy & Asthma Medical Professionals. She holds a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and a Bachelor of Science from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio.

Her background includes clinical research, teaching, and service in the United States Air Force Medical Corps. She also brings experience from several boards, including as Board Chair for the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, member of the Board of Directors for the San Antonio Rivard Report and The Texas Lyceum, and Co-Chair for Small Business for America’s Future.

If confirmed by City Council, she will join Board Chair Dr. Francine Romero, Vice Chair Dr. Willis Mackey, Trustee Janie Gonzalez, and Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones on the CPS Energy Board beginning February 1, 2026.

The five-member board oversees policy and works with management to supervise operations at CPS Energy—the largest municipally owned electric and gas utility in the country. The company generates over $3.6 billion in annual revenue, manages $15.5 billion in assets, employs more than 3,600 local workers, and contributes up to 14 percent—or more than $450 million each year—to San Antonio’s general fund.

All meetings of the CPS Energy Board are live-streamed online; past meetings and further information are available on their website.

CPS Energy was established in 1860 and provides electricity to over 970,000 customers as well as natural gas service to about 390,000 customers across San Antonio and seven nearby counties. The company reports that its combined energy bills remain among the lowest compared to other large U.S. cities while having generated $10.1 billion for San Antonio since 1942 through its operations.
