The U.S. Census Bureau will provide embargoed access to the 2020-2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates starting January 27 at 10 a.m. Eastern Time for registered embargo subscribers. The public release of these statistics is scheduled for January 29.
The ACS offers detailed information on topics such as language spoken at home, education, commuting patterns, employment, mortgage status and rent, income levels, poverty rates, and health insurance coverage. For many of its over 40 topics, it is the only source of local-level data.
Embargoed data will be available for various geographic regions including all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, congressional and state legislative districts, metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas, counties, places, census tracts, and block groups.
According to the Census Bureau’s embargo policy, wire services and distribution outlets are not allowed to share embargoed news stories or data files before the end of the embargo period. Data products—including those found on data.census.gov and through the API—will become publicly accessible by 10 a.m. ET on January 29.
Those interested in accessing embargoed data can register online at www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/embargoed_releases.
