The U.S. Census Bureau has released updated Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (TIGER)/Line files for 2025, now available in Shapefile, Geodatabase, and GeoPackage formats. These updates enable data users to generate custom maps using a range of data sources.
Among the new features are Current Suffixed Blocks Geodatabases and GeoPackages. These include both 2020 and current block information, with suffixes marking blocks that have been split since the 2020 census. This information can be linked to the Census Bureau’s address count listing files.
The geospatial data products cover legal, administrative, and statistical boundaries as well as roads and hydrography. Users will be able to connect these geographic boundary datasets with future demographic data releases from 2025 on data.census.gov in order to visualize census tabular data geographically.
While TIGER/Line files do not contain demographic statistics themselves, they provide geographic entity codes (GEOIDs) that allow users to link them with the Census Bureau’s demographic datasets. Guidance on selecting appropriate products is available on the TIGER Data Products Guide page.
