Amanda Crawford has been appointed as the new Texas insurance commissioner, taking office on February 3. As the head of the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI), she will oversee regulation of the state’s $293.9 billion insurance market, which is noted as the second largest in the United States and the fifth largest globally. The agency supervises 3,447 companies and over 983,411 agents and adjusters.
“I’m honored to serve as the next commissioner of insurance,” said Crawford. “TDI has a strong foundation, and I look forward to building on that work while strengthening our insurance markets and keeping Texas consumers at the center of every decision.”
Crawford brings more than 24 years of public service experience. She began her career at the Office of the Attorney General, where she held several positions including general counsel and deputy attorney general for administration. Most recently, she served as executive director of the Texas Department of Information Resources and was also chief information officer for Texas.
She is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin and holds a law degree from the University of Houston Law Center.
Governor Greg Abbott selected Crawford to succeed Cassie Brown, who retired on February 2 after four years in the role and more than two decades in public service.
