The Alamo Colleges District has been chosen as one of 25 Community Host organizations for the 2026 Weaver Awards, a national program run by Weave: The Social Fabric Project at the Aspen Institute. This initiative aims to recognize and support individuals who help strengthen community ties and foster trust.

As a Community Host, Alamo Colleges District will take on several responsibilities in the Greater San Antonio area. These include identifying local “weavers”—people who build relationships and trust—and sharing their stories with the broader community. The district will also launch a local version of the Weaver Awards, distributing over 20 microgrants each year for four years to both individuals and small nonprofits. Additionally, gatherings will be organized to help people connect and develop skills for strengthening community bonds. By participating in this effort, Alamo Colleges District joins a nationwide network of leaders working to rebuild trust across the United States.

Dr. Mike Flores, Chancellor of Alamo Colleges District, said: “This recognition reflects what we see every day in San Antonio — that the strength of our community is found in the people who show up for one another. Across the Alamo Colleges District, we believe opportunity is not only created through education and training, but it’s also built through connection, trust, and shared purpose.”

Frederick J. Riley, Executive Director of Weave: The Social Fabric Project at the Aspen Institute, stated: “While loneliness, isolation, and division seem to define our national story, these 25 Community Hosts show us another truth — that trust grows when neighbors show up for one another, build relationships, and work together. Each organization is already deeply woven into the life of its community, and by going even deeper, they’re proving that a culture of belonging isn’t just possible — it’s already taking hold, block by block.”

Each selected host receives $225,000 in initial funding along with resources such as training and technical assistance from Weave. This partnership signals a four-year commitment to Greater San Antonio aimed at encouraging local leadership and neighborly support within communities. The first cycle of awards is expected to begin in fall 2026.
