All five colleges within the Alamo Colleges District have received the Gold Veteran Education Excellence Recognition Award from the Texas Veterans Commission for 2025. The award is given to colleges and universities that demonstrate strong support for student veterans and military-connected students, including their dependents and spouses. Gold represents the highest level of distinction, with Silver and Bronze as additional levels.
Dr. Mike Flores, Chancellor of Alamo Colleges District, stated: “Our veterans and their families have earned more than our gratitude, they’ve earned our support. We’re proud all five of our colleges are a place where military-connected students find purpose, community, and the opportunity to build strong futures.”
The district serves over 5,700 veteran-connected students in San Antonio—known as Military City, USA—and continues to be a major provider of workforce training in the region. Each college offers Veterans Assistance Centers that provide services such as early registration, fee waivers, specialized academic advising for veterans, and VA work-study opportunities.
Programs in areas like nursing, public service, and technology remain popular among veterans who want to transition their skills into civilian careers through education at Alamo Colleges.
