The Baldrige Foundation has announced that the Alamo Colleges District is now a Trustee of the Institute for Performance Excellence and a member of the Mac Baldrige Society. The district, which previously received the Baldrige Award in 2018 and 2024, will take on a leadership role focused on systems thinking, organizational excellence, and expanding educational and economic opportunities through continuous improvement.

The Alamo Colleges District serves the Greater San Antonio area with five accredited colleges. It operates under the mission of “Empowering our diverse communities for success” and aims to be recognized as “the best in the nation in Student Success and Performance Excellence.” The district plays a significant part in workforce development, student mobility, and community prosperity in its region.

As a Trustee of the Institute for Performance Excellence and member of the Mac Baldrige Society, Alamo Colleges District will help guide future tools, resources, research, and strategic partnerships offered by the institute. The district will work with the Baldrige Foundation to promote performance excellence, align strategies with outcomes, and expand its impact among students, employers, and the broader community. Participation in institute-led research initiatives will be available to both faculty and students at Alamo Colleges District. The partnership also provides access to benchmarking networks and national leadership opportunities.

Josh Racette, President and CEO of the Baldrige Foundation said: “Alamo Colleges District represents the very best of what is possible in higher education when leaders embrace mission-driven systems, accountability, and a relentless focus on outcomes. Their strong emphasis on innovation, student success, and community impact reflects the core principles of the Baldrige Framework. We are honored to welcome them as a Trustee of the Institute for Performance Excellence and a member of the Mac Baldrige Society, and we look forward to advancing excellence together across Texas and the nation.”

Under Chancellor Dr. Mike Flores’s leadership, Alamo Colleges District has gained national recognition for its approach centered on student needs by connecting programs that meet workforce demands while expanding economic mobility. The district recently reached record enrollment with 77,191 students enrolled. Alumni contribute over $2 billion annually to regional economic output.

Dr. Mike Flores commented: “We are proud to be a Trustee of the Institute for Performance Excellence. The Baldrige Framework aligns with our mission to empower our diverse communities for success and strengthens our capacity to innovate, collaborate, and drive measurable results. This partnership provides a wealth of opportunities for us and helps us better serve our students, families, employers, and communities across the Greater San Antonio region.”
