The Alamo Colleges District is marking five years since the launch of AlamoPROMISE, its scholarship initiative aimed at expanding access to higher education and supporting economic growth in the region.
On Monday, the district will host the College Promise 10th Anniversary and Careers Institute at Palo Alto College. The event will bring together national leaders focused on improving pathways to higher education and workforce opportunities. Sessions will address topics such as career pathways, sustainable financing, employer partnerships, and equitable access to higher education, with the goal of preparing students for success in a changing economy.
During the event, AlamoPROMISE will be recognized with the National Impact Award from College Promise. The award honors 15 institutions nationwide for their commitment to student success through Promise programs.
“AlamoPROMISE is a powerful example of how education transforms not just individual lives, but our community’s growth,” said Dr. Mike Flores, Alamo Colleges District Chancellor. “By removing cost as a barrier and connecting students to the support they need, we are advancing our moonshot to end poverty through education and training. We’re honored to host College Promise and higher education leaders from across the nation and to be recognized for our program’s success—reflecting how we invest in students, strengthen families, and build a more prosperous future for San Antonio.”
District leaders will also participate in a panel discussion about AlamoPROMISE’s impact on educational access and economic growth. A recent economic analysis found that AlamoPROMISE has generated more than $1.1 billion in economic activity in Bexar County, supporting over 7,800 jobs between 2019 and 2024.
AlamoPROMISE allows high school seniors in Bexar County to attend an Alamo College tuition-free, removing financial barriers to college attendance. In the past four years, the district has invested $16.3 million in AlamoPROMISE scholarships, with an additional $77 million in financial aid funding for program participants.
The program began in 2019 through collaboration with local schools, community leaders, government, and philanthropic partners, aiming to increase college access for students in Bexar County. Since then, more than 30,000 students have enrolled as AlamoPROMISE Scholars. In Fall 2025, the program saw a record of over 13,600 scholars, including nearly 7,800 freshmen, contributing to an all-time high district enrollment of almost 88,000 learners.
